Benefits of Swedish Massage

benefits of swedish massage

What are the benefits of Swedish massage? Swedish massage is the most common type of massage. If you’ve ever gone to a spa or massage therapist, you’ve likely had a Swedish massage. If you’ve never had a massage, you’ve come to the right place!

Massage Strokes

Swedish massage involves several different types of strokes (the way the therapist works on a muscle or an arm, for example), including:

  • Gliding strokes.
  • Compression.
  • Friction.
  • Rocking.
  • Striking type motion.

Your massage may include all of these types of strokes or only a few types, depending on what your therapist is trying to accomplish. The therapist uses lotion or oil to work directly on the client’s skin. Particularly, the therapist can use their hands, fingers, or forearms to apply pressure to the area they are working on.

Benefits of Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is great for relaxation, if done properly. It can help with sore or tight muscles. It helps the client have a feeling of well-being and calm. Swedish massage improves circulation, and gets lymph to move, so it can decrease swelling. It can help prevent headaches, improve posture, and help with sleep. So many benefits of Swedish massage!

In case you were wondering, most of my clients come in for some pain relief and for general relaxation. After all, we lead busy, stress-filled lives. Many clients sit at desks all day, which can be problematic for the neck, back, and shoulders. Swedish massage can really help relax these problem areas. I usually spend quite a bit of time on these areas because almost everyone feels tension there.

Finally, are you new to massage? Swedish massage is a great place to start because it can be very gentle. I love taking new clients who have never had a massage before. I work hard to make you comfortable and to answer any questions you may have.
