Sleep During Massage

sleep during massage

You may be wondering: Is it OK to sleep during massage? Such a great question! I wanted to take a few moments to share my thoughts on the topic. I am a female Licensed Massage Therapist in Plano, Texas. My clientele is almost exclusively female. And my specialty is helping folks relax and reduce pain and stress with my Swedish massage techniques.

There are a few things to consider regarding sleeping during a massage. But, first and foremost, I am assuming you feel safe in the space and with the massage therapist.

Snoring, Etc.

One reason you might feel uncomfortable about falling asleep is that you fear you’ll be embarrassed by snoring or other bodily noises. Let me put your mind at ease with a little secret. Almost everyone snores. It is really no surprise. If your massage therapist has worked any time at all, they have heard all the noises. It is really no big deal. If you come to me for a massage, you do not need to feel embarrassed about snoring or other noises. Doesn’t matter at all to me.

FOMO – Will You Miss It If You Sleep?

Secondly, one of the biggest reasons people don’t want to fall asleep during a massage is because of FOMO (fear of missing out). This one really resonates with me. I love the experience of a massage and I don’t usually want to miss that. If, however, you really need to rest or sleep, the benefit of that might outweigh your fear of missing the experience. Alternatively, your goal may not be resting during the massage, but, instead, the actual physical benefits of the massage. I encourage you to evaluate your goals and determine whether sleeping would benefit you more than not sleeping.

Sleep During Massage?

In summary, deciding whether to sleep or not is a personal choice, dependent on several factors. If you come in for a massage and absolutely do not want to fall asleep, tell your therapist. If you see me, I am happy to check on you to help you stay awake if you’d like. I’ve done this! No big deal.
